DR MADIS RAHU PERFORMS THE FIRST MENISCUS IMPLANT SURGERY IN ESTONIA

Dr Madis Rahu, orthopaedics surgeon and one of the owners of The Hospital of Orthopaedics private hospital, performed two meniscus implant surgeries today. Unique surgery went accordinly to the plan and patients are recovering well.

“Meniscus implant gives especially good results for young (18-50) active people”, explained dr Rahu. “For example several sports activities are discouraged in case of partial removal of meniscus. Actifit implant gives new freedom to practice your favourite sports and decreases the possibility of injuries.”
One of orthopaedic sports medicine’s biggest problems is repairing a damaged meniscus. Each year, there are about 1.5 million cases of meniscal tears in Western Europe and the United States. Actifit is the product of Orteq Sports Medicine and has been specifically designed to help surgeons repair the meniscus through key-hole (arthroscopic) surgery. Actifit is implanted into the meniscal defect and as the damaged meniscal tissue heals Actifit gradually dissolves and is removed naturally from the body.
“The first Actifit implantation in Estonia was carried out today,” comments dr Michael Shin, Director of Research & Developing in Orteq. “We are very pleased with the outcome of the surgery. Actifit is the new generation of meniscus implants and our goal is to develop similar products for shoulder and hip problems as well.”
The Hospital of Orthopaedics is an independent company dedicated to creating the best elective and outpatient treatment in Europe.
